Postdoctoral position in In-situ biasing TEM of functional materials

The I3EM team at CEMES-CNRS has been developing intensively in situ and operando experiments on functional materials. The group has already established the necessary instrumentation and methodology, from dedicated specimen preparation to electrical contacting, automation and modeling. Our preferred technique is off-axis electron holography, for which we provide training and all the software tools for the data analysis. We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral research scientist, skilled in transmission electron microscopy, to join the group. He or she will have the opportunity to learn our in-situ techniques and to carry out new experiments in the field. One of the important aspects will be the specimen preparation by focussed ion-beam (FIB).
Requirements
We are looking for a candidate highly motivated in developing in situ experiments on nanostructures. Candidates should be skilled in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and have hands-on experience in specimen preparation by focussed ion-beam (FIB). Previous knowledge of electron holography is not necessary but candidates should be willing to learn. Knowledge of the physics of ferroic materials and/or microelectronics devices is a definite plus. The successful candidate should have good team spirit, dedicated work ethic and fluent in written and spoken English.

We are looking for an expert in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) in materials science. The successful candidate will have to develop independent research projects related to advanced developments in the technique (e.g. in the fields of 4D-STEM, EELS or EDX spectroscopy etc.). Using advanced electron microscopy, you will explore the interaction of nanoporous materials with organic pollutants at the molecular level, uncovering structure-property relationships that form the basis for next-generation water treatment technologies.
Requirements
Candidates should hold a Master’s degree in chemistry, physics, materials science, or a related discipline. A strong foundation in reticular materials synthesis, molecular adsorption processes, and the physics of electron-matter interactions is highly desirable. Practical experience in materials characterization, particularly using high-end electron microscopy,will be considered a significant advantage.

This GREENE postdoctoral position @ INMA (Zaragoza, Spain) will focus on the atomic scale and magnetic characterization of Nd-Fe-B at different length-scales (single crystals, micro and nano- sized grains) and the newly designed grain boundaries by advanced aberration-corrected (S)TEM techniques and local magnetic characterization by electron holography and DPC imaging. This work will be performed at the electron microscopy facilities of the Spanish National Infrastructure for Electron Microscopy (ELECMI) of the Laboratory of Advanced Microscopy (LMA) at INMA (https://lma.unizar.es/), which is equipped with two aberration-corrected TEMs: a 2025-upgraded double-corrected Titan Cube and a probe-corrected Titan 60-300, equipped with the most advanced imaging and spectroscopic tools for structural, chemical and magnetic analysis.

PhD Positions in STED Super-resolution microscopy

We have 2 experimental biophysics PhD positions available. The first position is part of a large, broad consortium: Evolve. In this project we will study cell division with STED microscopy in a range of organisms, including archaea, to reveal early cellular mechanisms. The second project is also part of a consortium. This PhD project we will study how disordered proteins ensure highly selective transport in nuclear pore complexes and peroxisomes, using STED Super resolution microscopy in (living) human and yeast cells. For both projects, among others, you will be expected to develop protocols for optimal labelling for STED; develop image analysis algorithms using Python, and investigate minimal impact imaging protocols.

He/she will explore the structure and local chemistry of interfaces in two systems: thin multi-layer STO/PTO prepared by PLD (for negative capacitance) and PMMA/SiO2 nanoparticles.
