This position offers an exceptional opportunity to conduct high quality research in the development of new transmission electron microscopy methods (STEM and/or TEM) and their application to solve important problems in condensed matter physics and materials science. The successful candidate will exploit aberration-corrected FEG-TEMs with tailored electron-optics and pixelated, single electron detector systems operating in customised modes to deliver new information about key functional materials. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to conduct high quality research in the development and application of new transmission electron microscopy methods (STEM and/or TEM) using a beam blanker to solve important problems in materials science. The position will develop and apply methods using an aberration-corrected FEG-TEM with beam blanker and pixelated, single electron detector systems to deliver new information about beam-sensitive materials and time-dependent phenomena in condensed matter physics. University of AntwerpAntwerp, Belgium Staff Scientist – Analytical Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy Description The Department of Physics in the Faculty of Science has the following part 50% vacancy: senior academic staff in the field of Electron Microscopy for Materials Science As a member of the Senior Academic Staff (Dutch: Zelfstandig Academisch Personeel, ZAP), you will contribute to the University of Antwerp’s three core tasks: education 40%, research 40% and services 20%. Your role may also include organisational and managerial aspects. Requirements You hold a PhD in Physics or Materials Science. Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies. You have established an excellent research portfolio including top 10% publications (JCR, WoS-category). Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision. You are motivated to develop your teaching skills further through the professionalisation opportunities available. If you do not speak Dutch, the administrative language of the university, you should be willing to obtain a CEFR B2 level of proficiency in Dutch. As soon as you take on teaching duties as a programme component coordinator, you should be able to demonstrate a CEFR C1 level of proficiency in the language of instruction.
